The wooden handles sit comfortably in the hand, and the long stem provides ample clearance from the heat source. The cast iron is tumble-treated for immediate use. For cleaning, simply separate the two cast-iron halves using the hinge. When cleaning, you'll also benefit from cast iron's natural non-stick properties.
