The history of the Kuksa - The origin of the Bushcraft cup

Originally, the kuksa was made from a birch growth using tools such as a knife and axe, then decorated with reindeer horns and leather straps. Traditionally, the kuksa was never washed, but only washed with clear water in a stream or lake. Olive wood has the advantage of being scratch-resistant, hygienic and insensitive to acids, plus it doesn't retain odors - making it the ideal utensil for adventure. Caring for your Kuksa

You can clean your Kuksa the traditional way, in a stream - or with a mild washing-up liquid and clean water. Leave to dry thoroughly after each use - if necessary, you can coat your Kuksa with a thin film of quality olive oil. Treat occasionally with a little olive oil and after each cleaning allow to dry completely, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive temperature differences. Colored liquids such as blackberry juice or red wine can discolor your kuksa.
